Cheap eat-outs

A few of our favorite restaurants are hopping on the lowering-prices bandwagon in an effort to bring in more diners. Some are keeping the portion sizes the same, some are shrinking them a little bit, calling them "perfectly portioned". Which, really, is still plenty of food. Check out the links below to see their menu items:

Chili's 10 Under $7

TGI Friday's $5 Sandwiches and Salads (limited time only, check your local restaurant for details)

Mimi's Cafe Just Enough Breakfast
Mimi's Cafe Just Enough Lunch
Mimi's Cafe Just Enough Dinner

Subway $5 footlongs
Every Monday, Redbox gives a free promo code for $1.00 off your rental. Is you return the movie before 9 pm the next day, your movie is free!

Here is today's code: 4CW33N

You can only use a promo code at the Redbox location. It cannot be used if you reserve a movie online. For all info, visit redbox.com

Finally... Target deals! April 26- May 2

I've been waiting to find Target deals on some other blogs, I just do not have the time to figure them out myself, so a lot of thanks is owed to the lovely ladies out there that do take the time to figure these out for the rest of us!

**All Target coupons can be printed multiple times on the same piece of paper by going to Hot Coupon World under Target Coupons or A Full Cup under Target Coupon Generator.

The rest of my Albertson's trips + Walmart + Smith's

Yesterday was the last day to use the Albertsons double coupons. Since my husband bought 12, yes 12, papers so we could get tons of coupons, I was able to make multiple trips and also use up my $25 in catalinas from the Trail Mix Crunch transactions I made earlier this month. (I got 25 boxes of cereal for just a few dollars and got 5 $5 catalinas to use on my future purchases. 2 of them expired on the 20th and the remaining 3 expired yesterday. So I had to go use up all of these coupons!) Even though I had $25 in free groceries, I wanted to make the most out of it, so I used coupons on almost every thing I bought, then I doubled them. I actually had to grab candy bars on 2 of the transactions to be able to use the catalinas. My Albertsons let me do 2 transactions in a row with the doubles. So I made 2 more transactions at Albertsons in the morning before work, then I went to a different Albertsons, who only let me do 1 transaction, so I went to another nearby Albertsons. They let me 2 transactions in a row as well. Luckily, I live near a lot of grocery stores, and I had to go to Smith's before their sale ended at midnight, so I basically just made a circle hitting up all of these different stores. I also decided to go to Walmart to try and find hummus, which Smith's didn't have but Walmart didn't have either!!! but I was able to use up alot of good coupons there. Since it is way late (or early in the a.m.) and I doubled most of my coupons, and the sales expired yesterday,  I will just post the picture of everything I bought yesterday and then I will break down the Walmart trip in the morning. But I hope this is a big inspiration to everyone to see what is possible by taking the time to coupon!

I split these up into 2 transactions to A. use 3 double coupons and B. use the $5.00/off any purchase catalinas that I got from my Post Trail Mix Crunch transactions. I was 0.03 short to use the $5 coupon on each transaction, so I grabbed a candy bar to make up the difference. Each transaction was exactly the same, just done twice.

2 bags Cascadian Farm frozen fruit 3.99 each
1 bag Cascadian Farm frozen veggie 2.99 each
candy bar .79
  - 3 $1.00 Cascadian Farm coupons from inserts

1st & 2nd Albertsons double coupon trips

The first trips I made using the double coupons, I wanted to make sure I squeezed all the savings I could out of them. I used grocerysmarts.com to compile my shopping list of items on sale and the coupons to match with them, then I broke it up into seperate transactions to use 3 of the double coupons per sale.

1st transaction:
Quaker/Pepsi promo: Save $3 instantly when you spend $15 on participating items. Mix and Match over 400 items. These are the only items I wanted from the sale. Prices listed are the sale price before the $3/off promo

6 Quaker True Delights Granola Bars
$2.50 x 6: $15.00
- $3.00 from promo
- 6 $1.00/1 from the 3/1 RP insert
- 3 $1.00 doubles
Final OOP: $3.50 before tax (he only rang up 5 boxes, so I actually did not get the $3 promo, but paid $2.50 per box instead of $2.00 per box if he had rang up 6. Difference of 0.50 overcharged. Not a biggie)

2nd transaction:
6 Sobe Lifewater $1.00 each
6 RiceARoni $1.25 each
2 Aunt Jemima syrup $2.00 each
- $3.00 from promo
- 3 B1G1 Sobe printable
- 2 $1.00/3 RiceARoni printable
- 2 $1.00 doubles
WackyMac pasta $1.89
- $0.50 printable no longer available
- $0.50 double
Albertsons large dozen eggs $1.39
- $1.00 Albertsons coupon received in the mail
Final OOP: $9.78 before tax

SAVED: $41.21!

Albertson's Double Coupons

UPDATE** There were only 3 coupons in the paper today and you can use 3 per family per transaction. I got 12 papers, and when I went to the store later this evening, there was a stack of them just sitting out by the frozen foods section. I only took 3 more of the ads, giving me 9 more doubles and it made up for the coupons I was using in that trip and then some, and still plenty left over for others! So just keep an eye out at your store, or ask the customer service desk if you can have some.

Thanks to Shopping With Cents, it has been confirmed that Albertson's will have double coupons in tomorrow's Sunday paper. There will be 4 of them and you can usually only use 4 double coupons per transaction. Albertsons will allow you to do 3 seperate transactions in a row, so you can take 12 doubles.

Also, the stores were out of a few items that I wanted to get last time. The double coupons are usually only good for 3 days. So, make a list of which coupons you'd like to double first, then have back-ups ready. Then if they are out of a product, you can still take advantage of good deals & the doubles without running around to different stores.

I like to go through the ad to see what is on sale and figure coupon match-ups with coupons I already have or can print online. Then I see which ones would be best to use to save even more with the doubles. Or, I will go through all of my coupons that are due to expire soon or are $1.00 off so I can take advantage of the double coupons and still get things at a pretty good price, even if the items aren't on sale or a good sale price.

FREE cereal + $10 overage!

** UPDATE: I wanted to get more of this cereal so I could get the catalinas, and I was really fortunate to get my hands on multiple $2 off coupons, so my Albertson's let me pre-pay for 15 more boxes of cereal before the sale ended. I'm so glad that they let me do this, because I was tired of going to the store just to see they were sold out of the cereal. So after everything, I spent only a few dollars on tax and got $25 in free groceries on future visits! I have also heard from family that this cereal is amazing.

I finally some Trail Mix Crunch cereals at an Albertson's by my house. I have literally gone to 1-2 different Albertson's every day to try and find some but they are always sold off the shelves. I was lucky enough to grab 10. I only had 5 of the $2/1 coupons with me, but I couldn't risk not getting more. I will get more of the coupons and go back with them to get my $$ back. The sale for the cereal is this:

Post cereal $2.07 single purchase
Save $1.00 when you purchase 2, bringing them down to $1.57 each.
When you buy 2, you get a $2/off catalina
When you buy 3, get a $3/off catalina
When you buy 5, get a $5/off catalina

Catalina's are coupons that print off at the register and are handed to you with your reciept. They are coupons to use on your next purchase, and usually just a dollar amount off of your total. Some may be a coupon for a specific item.

So I bought 10 boxes of cereal in seperate transactions, because after buying the first 5, I decided to go back and get more before they run out.

For my first transaction, 4 boxes of the cereal rang up as $1.57 apiece and the 5th box rang up as $2.07. Even though the coupons were for $2/1, she only took $1.57 off each box. She should have taken the full $2.00 off coupon for the last box, but I think she was on a roll and only took $1.57 off. Not a big deal, only paying $0.50 for 5 boxes of cereal, but since I will be going back anyway with my coupons, I'll just get my $0.50 back too.

So, my total OOP for the 5 boxes of cereal after tax (and a drink): $2.30 - $0.50: $1.80
And then I got my $5 off catalina

2nd transaction:
5 boxes of trail mix crunch
4 at $1.57 each
1 at $2.07
OOP: paid $8.60
And got my $5 off catalina
Will go back today with 5 $2/1 coupons and get all of my money back.

I'm not sure how they will figure out tax, but if they do the same thing and only give $1.57 back for 4 of the boxes of cereal, plus my $0.50 back from the first transaction, I will get back at least $8.78

So all in all, I got 10 boxes of cereal for FREE and got $10 FREE money/coupons to use on my next purchase! Woo hoo!

Free Quaker Rice Cakes sample

Quaker rice and multigrain snacks are satisfyingly delicious. They're made with wholesome ingredients such as brown rice, wheat and corn and topped with great tasting flavors like Chocolatey Drizzle and Cheddar Cheese. (yes, this almost-exact wording came from Quakerricesnacks.com)  I couldn't have said it better myself! I have not tried either of these flavors (yet. I signed up for my chocolate sample!) but I am a fan of the other flavors. Especially the Multigrain Minis, Cinnamon Sugar flavor mmmmm.

...why I HATE Wal-Mart!

I promised this post earlier this week, after a very successful trip to Walmart, but still not feeling it was worth my time to ever shop there again. Even though the company likes to portray they have the lowest prices out there or they will match an advertised price, I have found most items to be cheaper or of better quality with a much better experience at other stores. I'm not asking anyone to agree or disagree with me, this is more of a personal vent of my feelings on my own blog. Comments are welcome though!

1. It is RARE to find a nice employee

2. Way too crowded at any time of day or night (and why do parents bring their tired, cranky, sleep-deprived children with them to do their grocery shopping after MIDNIGHT?)

3. Dim lighting

4. The shopping carts always shock me! Literally, my hands always get shocked while pushing the cart & if I touch my kids, then they get shocked

5. Rude people in general, employees & customers alike. No one ever seems happy to be at Walmart

6. Coupons are such a hassle for the cashiers. They seem annoyed & check your bags for every item you have a coupon for, just to make sure that you really bought that item

7. Out of stock on lots needed items

8. Bad customer service

9. PARKING!!! Way to many empty handicap spots & way too many carts not put away or picked up by an employee, so when you do find a spot you have to get out of the car to move the cart, then get back in to park

10. Once you get into Walmart, you're lucky to get a cart sometimes, because they're all out in the ginormous parking lot!

11. Crappy gimpy carts

12. I feel dirty in the store. Its like it never gets cleaned. Which makes me wonder: I've been to Walmart at all hours of the day or in the middle of the night. Have I ever seen anyone cleaning?

13. If you go at night when they are restocking, they fill up all the empty spots down the middle of the aisle, so if you're halfway into the store & you need to cross over to the aisle on the other side, you have to walk all the way down to an opening (finally) and then backtrack

14. They should give us maps so we could effectively & efficiently navigate the store, because even if you think you know where something might be, good luck finding it or finding an employee who knows where it is. The stores are unorganized & poorly laid out, especially during holidays.

15. Why are there like 50 registers but less than 10 are open at a time, and usually the majority of those registers are "speedy checkout" for 20 items or less?

16. Checkout lines are ridiculously long & slow-moving. So you can wait in line for a good 30-60 minutes in the "speedy checkout" lines or get behind the family of 8 with 2 carts full of groceries

17. I think Walmart is falling behind the times on Save Our Planet, because it seems that the cashiers are trained to put a MAXIMUM of 3 items per bag, even if you only have 4-5. Yep, that means it gets put into 2 or more bags. There was a plastic bag caught on a tree branch behind my work yesterday. Guess what store it was from?

18. I once went there to exchange 2 items. Waited in line at customer service. Got money back. Went to aisle at back of store to get items. Waited in line at register. Took me over 2 hours.

19. Fruit & veggies: all produce is expired in less than a week, never fails, no matter how good it looks or how good it smells the day you buy in the store

20. Different prices for the same items. For example:
Yoplait Yo-Plus Yogurt Cherry, Vanilla or Peach flavors: $2.08
Blueberry Acai flavor: $2.53
This is NOT the case in any other store that I've seen
Different flavor = different price? Come on

21. I don't understand the "rollback" pricing. Is it on sale? Is this a new, fixed, cheaper price for the product? I have actually seen "rollback" prices more than what they previously were. doesn't that contradict the term "rollback"?

Also, I did a google search of "I hate Walmart" and a lot of web sites are actually dedicated to this topic. There is even one that seems to be specifically made for Walmart employees. This may be the case with a lot of other stores, but I truly didn't expect to find so many people out there doing the same thing that I just did, lol!
